Co-ordinated research to develop a Flood Estimation Handbook began in April 1994, with rainfall frequency studies funded by the NRA and remaining aspects funded by MAFF. After outlining the planned scope of the Handbook, the paper invites managers to support the validation and update of relevant hydrometric data. Some technical aspects of the new generalization of flood frequency are introduced, and the anticipated form of the Handbook explored.
