Abstract

Reed, D.W. 1993a. Optimum control of pump operations. Report No. 122, Institute of Hydrology, Wallingford, 34 pp.

The report presents the outcome of a study of the operational control of land drainage pumping stations. After amplifying the multi-objective nature of pumping station operation, a methodology is presented for the optimum control of pump operations (OCOPO). The theory is put into practice through a detailed description of an application of OCOPO to the Newborough pumping station, situated near Peterborough and operated by the North Level Internal Drainage Board. Further developments and wider applications of the methodology are discussed, and conclusions drawn from the research initiative.
